According to what I hear , one is allowed a free credit report once a year, does anyone know if that is true?. If it IS true, why do they keep asking me to sign up and pay a monthly fee?. Or, is this like these other scams that offer free stuff, only to have you sign up for a monthly fee?

I was driving on the carpool lane today(I wasn't suppose to because carpool says 3 or more persons and it was me and my sister only), and a CHP saw me, so he pulled me and asked for my license, registration and insurance. This is what I know: 4WD and newer cars means higher rates. I know certain cars, particularly Honda Civics and Accords from the 90's were commonly broken into and stolen, and that raised rates. Due to the California high cost of medical insurance, My wife and I are thinking of moving to Massachusetts state, get a small home there and retire there eventually.
